May 20, 2019 - Jessica Antaya

Today (May 20th) we started our day like normal and had our 9AM class at the University of Valencia. Todays topic was about self-efficacy and how to tell out own narrative. We took the time to go over how to use our personal narratives and focused on career development. I think this is important because we are always learning so much and go through so many unique experiences and situations but a lot of the time, struggle with how to tell our stories and who we are because of them. This class gave me a better understanding of how to bring my personal narrative to my professional life. After class a few of us decided to go to the beach and relax for a bit with the little time we have left in Spain. Its times like these I appreciate the most because we are able to connect with each other a lot better in a fun and relaxed environment. We get to know each other’s personalities and surprise one another with our responses to silly games like truth or dare or would you rather. They might seem like goofy, surface level topics but every time we have played any of these, I personally have learned something new about another person and we always find ourselves veering off from the game and going into more in-dept about certain answers we give and why.

After this, we all went to our service-learning project and went to a charity home to see what exactly they do. It was amazing to see the building and to hear about the great work they do for their community. They provide meals for about 300 people every day and for the past 100 years, they have not closed their doors a single time. They provide people and children with a place to shower, eat, learn, and above all, they give them a family to love. Once this finished, me and Anna decided to walk around the center for a little while and see the shops.

While we were there, we decided to go up into the Serrano Towers. We have been there many times but we have never actually been up the tower. I was surprised with the view from the top. On one side, you could see the older part of the town and on the other side was the older part. From here, there was a clear difference with the newer and bigger buildings all on one side and the older ones to another side. The noise from the city was also a lot louder than ground level. You could hear kids playing and cars driving and the people going about their day all very clearly from the top. Over all, today was a very relaxing day and I was able to get to know my peers a little better as they day went on.
